About
Software engineer and Netcompany consultant with a passion for backend development, DevOps, and self-hosting.
I’m Michael Ringhus Gertz, a software engineer with a particular passion for backend development and DevOps. I graduated from the University of Southern Denmark (SDU) with an MSc in Software Engineering in the summer of 2026.
This site is my own self-hosted corner of the web, where I share projects, technical notes, and things I learn along the way.
Professional work
I work as a consultant at Netcompany, where I’m involved in designing software for the Danish Debt Collection Agency (Gældsstyrelsen) and its debt collection systems.
What I like building
Backend development is my main area of interest. My preferred stack is Java and the Spring Framework. For frontend development, I prefer React or React Native, with Expo for mobile projects.
I’m also interested in the DevOps side of software: how applications are deployed, operated, and maintained beyond the development environment.
Self-hosting & DevOps
Outside work, I spend time experimenting with self-hosting, both on a server at home and on servers hosted at Hetzner. These setups give me a hands-on playground for exploring infrastructure and deployment workflows.
I experiment with Docker and Kubernetes, explore GitOps workflows, and use tools such as Dockhand and Argo CD, among others. I enjoy trying things out, seeing how the pieces fit together, and learning by running them myself.
Side projects
Alongside my professional work, I build small projects of my own. I’ve written about them in the Projects section, where I share what I’ve been working on and what I’ve learned in the process.
